Presented by Vicki M. Knapp, Ph.D., BCBA-D, Director of Quality Improvement and Professional Development, Joe Forgione, Behavior Support Consultant, and Kathy Moyer, Educational Coordinator

The purpose of this presentation is to provide attendees with specific strategies they can use with their children with autism to teach them about puberty and sexual behavior. Specific topics will include preparing your child for puberty and addressing touching of self, touching of others, discussing inappropriate topics, and removing clothing in inappropriate places.

Thursday, April 3, 2014: Improving Bedtime Routines and Sleep Patterns in Children with Autism

Presented by Michelle A. Hickman, Ph.D., BCBA-D, Coordinator of Curriculum and Training

This workshop was developed to assist parents and caregivers living with children with autism who have sleep difficulties. The presentation will provide an overview of common sleep problems and treatment options, as well as an in-depth explanation of specific behavioral strategies shown to be effective. Participants will leave the workshop with practical, evidence-based plans to improve the bedtime behavior and/or sleep patterns of their child.

Thursday, April 24, 2014: Strategies for Addressing Wandering in Autism

Presented by Vicki M. Knapp, Ph.D., BCBA-D, Director of Quality Improvement and Professional Development

The purpose of this workshop is to provide caregivers of individuals with autism strategies for preventing wandering or elopement behavior. Specific teaching and other preventative strategies will be provided. Caregivers will leave the workshop with ideas for teaching strategies, preventative resource ideas, and a plan for what to do if their child wanders away from home or a community site.

Tuesday, April 29, 2014: Redefining Consequence: Strategies for Addressing Challenging Behaviors Demonstrated by Children with Autism Spectrum Disorders

Presented by David Meichenbaum, Ph.D., Licensed Psychologist, Director of Community Consulting and Clinical Services

This presentation is designed for caregivers who live with a child who demonstrates recurring challenging behaviors. This presentation goes beyond determining what is causing and maintaining challenging behaviors by additionally emphasizing practical evidence-based strategies to decrease maladaptive behaviors, increase adaptive alternative behaviors, and evaluate the effectiveness of intervention plans. Attendees will consider whether their current means of responding to challenging behaviors include the necessary elements to build skills and curtail future problematic behaviors. Specific case examples will be provided.
